Areas of practice
My work spans healthcare, education, government, business, and legal contexts. I select interpreting modes to fit the setting, including simultaneous, whispered simultaneous, and consecutive interpretation.
CHI™-Mandarin certified healthcare interpreting for clinical visits, specialist consultations, care coordination, and other patient–provider encounters.
Simultaneous, whispered simultaneous (chuchotage), and consecutive interpretation for public hearings, community meetings, IEP conferences, and professional events.
Mandarin–English interpretation and document translation for attorney communications, immigration-related matters, and litigation support. Not represented as court-certified interpretation.
Translation, proofreading, editing, and localization of professional, civic, educational, and technical materials, with attention to context, nuance, and intended readership.
Targeted Mandarin and English coaching focusing on pronunciation mechanics and business fluency, alongside licensed professional training for aspiring healthcare interpreters.
In multiparty meetings, whispered simultaneous interpretation can allow the discussion to continue naturally for participants who need real-time language access. I use it when the setting, acoustics, and participants' needs make it appropriate, and shift to consecutive interpretation when necessary.

Background
I'm a Mandarin–English language professional based in Fremont, California. My interpreting, translation, and teaching practice draws on decades of experience in healthcare, education, technology, business, and public service in the United States and Taiwan.
In addition to my CHI™-Mandarin certification, I have worked extensively in interpreter training and language education, including leadership roles with East Bay Chinese School and SF Language Academy. I hold an MBA in Marketing from California State University, East Bay, paired with a solid background in Computer Science and software systems.
My goal is to make communication precise, accessible, and respectful of the people and contexts involved.
Professional services are offered within the scope of my training, qualifications, and the requirements of each assignment.
Beyond language
My interest in language is inseparable from my curiosity about people. Living, studying, and working in South Korea, Taiwan, and on both coasts of the United States has given me firsthand experience navigating different cultures—and a lasting appreciation for the nuances that words alone cannot convey.
Curiosity in practice
Alongside Mandarin and English, I continue to engage with Korean, Cantonese, and my family's Shandong dialect. I'm revisiting German after three years of high school study and self-learning Spanish. Outside spoken language, I practice traditional Chinese calligraphy, which reinforces the structure, patience, and cultural discipline behind communication. I also explore how AI workflows support personalized learning and precise terminology analysis.
Breadth of perspective
I've worked with employers and built businesses across finance, semiconductors, enterprise software, startups, e-commerce, and education. My experience also reaches back to family businesses in restaurants, grocery retail, and wholesale distribution, as well as after-school education. Those settings taught me how much communication depends on trust, business etiquette, relationships, and unspoken expectations.
For me, effective interpreting and teaching mean more than finding the right words. They mean understanding the people, the setting, and what matters between the lines.
